NDDC Completes 16km Odi-trofani Road

After several failed attempts by the people of the riverine settlement in Trofani in the Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State to have their community linked by road to the rest of the state the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has finally completed a 16km road to the community which would be commissioned before the end of the year.
The 15.58 kilometre Odi-Trofani road with five bridges linking the famous Odi community in the Kolokuma/Opokuma local government area and Trofani in Sagbama council area, home town of Air Admiral Larry Koinyan (rtd), former chairman of the defunct DFRRI.
Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Mr. Timi Alaibe who disclosed this to Vanguard in Yenagoa said the road which has been completed would be commissioned in no distant time.
The road he said is designed to accelerate development and open up the various communities between Odi and
Trofani in Kolokuma-Opokuma and Sagbama council areas respectively. The NDDC boss further explained that the rehabilitation of the Odi stretch of the East-West road and construction of internal concrete road to Odi secondary school has brought succour to this ancient Ijaw settlement and has significantly enhanced both social and economic live of the people.
On the Sagbama-Tungbo-Bolu Orua-Angiama-Ebedebiri-Toru Orua road, Mr. Alaibe said the firm handling the job should not be blamedfor the slow pace of work because it is working according to milestone payment.
He also attributed the recent lull in activities at the project site to the rainy season saying that the firm has since returned to site.
The Managing Director said this stretch of the project comprises a 20 kilometers length, 7.3 kilometers wide asphalt road with four bridges linking major oil producing communities in the Bayelsa West senatorial district.
Vanguard investigation revealed that the road when completed would help reduce the present travails of travellers to Ekeremor council who had to go through Bomadi in Delta state.
Also commenting on the Odi-Trofani road project, a prominent son of the Kolokuma-Opokuma council and one time General Manager of the Bayelsa State Electricity Board, Engr. Olice Kemenanabo who said he drove the Odi-Trofani road commended the NDDC for embarking on several development projects in Bayelsa State that have brought succour to the people in spite of the commission''s limited resources...
